Flying
Mountain is an independent record label specialising in East/West fusions from
a variety of standpoints. We like to 'mix it up' and are equally at home with
Indian master drummers and stringed instruments as we are discussing the finer
points of turntablism within a sampled groove. Music has no limits and neither
do we.
Drongomala on his liner notes
for Scale says "All music made by folk is folk
music, all music made in the world is world music and ethnic music is the punchline
to a joke that was never funny in the first place." We are aware
that this annoys the ethnopimps using these terms but what you gonna do?
Kick-starting the label are two records by Drongomala
called Scale and 100
Fields and a new collaboration to the label Elemental.
After that check out the bright fuse and short life of The Good Hurt, the melancholy of Louis Oak Anderson.
Nice to meet you and if want to know more or you feel like you can
help our good cause then don't hesitate to drop
us a line.
An interesting aside....in Hindu lore and prehistory all mountains had
wings but the problem was they used to arse around and make alot of noise
- they would do they were massive. Eventually the Gods became angry and came
down from heaven and cut all the wings off the mountains. The only mountain
that was spared was 'Mainakam' which was swimming in a lake and escaped the
wing-cull. Mainakam is a place just outside Cochin, Kerala and that's where
we stayed and came up with the name for the label. Now you know! |
