I’m a MORON UR AN IDIOT

ISRC: TCAHY2421477 / April fools 2024

Wait a minute…are you even allowed to say the word moron and idiot?! Erm yes for now you can but I found that a load of Generative AI tools and services do not like these words at all and will flat out not allow them. Making concepts ‘illegal’ and denying them for use and development by artists is one slippery slope. What kind of world do we end up with here? No Clash? No Sex Pistols? No Public Enemy? No ..Jilted John even. Not on my watch.

“Everybody jumping in the gungha now!”

Written, arranged, produced and mixed by Drongomala and aided by the following wonderful musicians.

  • Rudio Barilaribass on bass guitar

  • Zawadi Mukami on backing vocals

  • Juani Seguilead - lead guitar

  • O.K Subramaniam - Nadaswaram

  • Rama Colomer drum kit

  • Drongomala - rhythm guitar, synths, percussion, fx

Some songs take years…decades even. The first big band I was in somehow ended up on a talent show…long before talent shows were semi-cool. I hated it and the song ‘You’re Stupid’. I knew this wasn’t me and that wasn’t the scene and soon after the band broke up.

I moved into Leith in Edinburgh and got into the club scenes around 1993. In particular the LGBT house club Joy and the legendary Drum’n’bass Manga club - I ate it up and jammed with turntablists and rappers. I wrote ‘I’m a Moron UR an Idiot’. That more like it i thought. I bounced to India and everything changed. Time passed and other songs came along. I added a Nadaswaram (reed instrument) in Kerela while recording Scale and 100 Fields and then it lay dormant again for years. Like some mystical artefact awaiting a new dynasty arising or some ring lost by Gollum to be found by Bilco.

…until April Fools 2024 when it slingshots around my universe and comes right back at all of us.

Here are a bunch of reasons why this song should annoy you

  1. It’s calling you an idiot - like, a lot

  2. It’s six minutes long

  3. It has two conceptual halves

  4. It’s not one style of music

  5. It’s super indulgent

  6. It’s trying to hijack April fools

…and yet it’s the medicine. Get down off yourself - be loose - make mistakes, and do it your way.

Everybody jumping in the Gungha now!
